Family Support

Our Family Support service works alongside families with children and young people aged from birth to under 18 who may be experiencing challenges or need extra support at home.

Tailored Care

We provide confidential counselling, practical guidance, advocacy and referrals to help families strengthen parenting skills, build resilience and create a safe, nurturing environment for their children.

Presonalised Support

Support is tailored to each family’s needs and may include assistance with emotional, social or financial difficulties, navigating other services, or working through complex family circumstances.

What We Offer

Our Family Support Counsellor works respectfully and collaboratively with families, community organisations and other CDCC programs to help prevent concerns from escalating and support positive, lasting outcomes for children and their caregivers.

Family Violence Support Service

The Cooktown District Community Centre Family Violence Support Service offers case management with a counsellor who deals specifically with domestic and family violence. 

About the program

Sessions involve face to face counselling in a private, confidential and safe environment. These sessions aim to help you achieve your goals, empowering you to regain control and live a happy, healthy life.

Counselling allows you to discuss your experiences with someone who is understanding, non-judgemental and supportive.

Family Violence is behaviour by one family member that causes physical, sexual and/or emotional damage.

Children’s development and well-being are negatively affected by exposure to famly violence. This is a free and confidential service providing outreach to Cooktown, Wujal Wujal, Laura and Hope Vale.

Universal Aftercare Program

The Universal Aftercare Program provides practical, person-centered support for individuals and families experiencing suicidal distress, trauma, grief, or significant emotional challenges. Our Support Coordinator works directly with you to build trust, create safety plans, and ensure you remain connected to vital care following a crisis or referral.

How We Support You:

Trauma-Informed Support: Personalized safety planning and ongoing crisis recovery support.

Flexible Outreach: Available via home visits, community appointments, phone support, or referrals across Cooktown, Hope Vale, and Wujal Wujal.

Connected Care: Partnering with local health providers, emergency services, Elders, and community networks to deliver a respectful, culturally safe response.
